KITCHEN CABINETS
Kitchen cabinets are almost always too high above our heads or too low below the waist. To minimise all that bending and stretching, get creative with your storage layout. Store the heaviest items like plates and bowls between hip and shoulder-height to prevent over-stretching. Light items like cereals and coffee beans should go to the least-accessible places like the top shelf of the cabinet. They may be out of the way, but they hurt less than a glass bowl should it fall on your feet.
TIP: Opt for cabinets with drawers instead of doors - this makes the items stored right at the back of the cabinet more easily accessible.

WORK SPACE
An ergonomic kitchen should be well-designed, keeping in mind the strategic locations of the refrigerator, sink, cooking range and work space. For instance, there should be ample work space on both sides of the cooking range for food waiting to be cooked or those fresh out of the oven. Provide also for counter space near the sink - you will need it to place the fresh produce to be washed.
For those of you who are left-handed, take note of how your kitchen appliances are arranged. Things with doors like microwave ovens and kitchen cabinets should open at an angle which is comfortable and do not require you to twist and turn. If you hang your kitchen utensils, it is common sense to have them on the left-hand side of your cooking range instead of the right.
TIP: For extra workspace, look out for kitchen islands with extra table tops that can be pulled out or kept hidden as and when needed.
